Why Japanese 101?

I have a handful of reasons! One of the main motivations is that I am fond of modern Japanese culture. I have been exposed to a great amount of modern Japanese art, film, and literature, but all through English or Chinese. Gaining at least a little bit of knowledge of its own language is definitely the next step to fuller appreciation of the culture. Another reason is that my daily life often encounters the language - grocery shopping, traveling, and anime watching (not gonna lie) - which would all make more sense if I know more words and phrases than I ever did. Finally, the similarity between Japanese and Chinese makes it easy to pick up Japanese from scratch. I'm not sure how difficult it would be further down the line, but I need to start somewhere. This is why the past few weeks have been quite smooth for me. The hiragana, vocabulary, and even sentence structure seem pretty natural. I'm enjoying the process and look forward to more Japanese!

    1. You will get along! I feel that one can develop a language sense after repeating many times! :)

  2. I know my friend is excited to get to Kanji because she'll feel more comfortable for learning that "alphabet" since she knows Chinese. I wish my Chinese was better so I could see more of the similarities.

    1. There are some differences too! It's interesting to see the nuanced differences in strokes, shapes, etc.
